          From our President

Happy 2010 Everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas holiday and a great New Year’s Eve celebration.

Tommy and I went to Mid Winter in Myrtle Beach January 14-17.  It was cold and rainy but it didn’t keep us from attending Sam West’s “Shad Alberty” Fund Raiser on Saturday night.  Approximately 250 shaggers gathered in the ball room of Ocean Drive Hotel to watch Junior Shaggers complete in dancing.  Divisions were 9-14, 15-20 and then we watched a “Jack and Jill” dance contest with Ellen Taylor, Charlie and Jackie Womble, a couple of Hall of Famers  National Champions and Keepers of the Dance.  Bill and Alice Pittman’s granddaughter, Allison Pittman (9) completed for the 2nd time in 2 weekends in a contest.  These young shaggers are a pleasure to watch!  How quickly they learn their steps and have a fun time dancing.  Ask Bill and Alice about their granddaughter…they would love to tell you about her!

How about our new beginners’ class.  Let’s remember to make a point to welcome them when they come to The Pines.  Some great potential new members are in this class.

Hope everyone will be able to come to the February social with their “sweetheart”.  Anyone planning to donate a raffle item please bring to shag prior to the social if possible.  Door prizes are welcomed anytime.

RCSC has been asked to participate in other events coming up in the next few months.  More information will be forthcoming as time gets closer.

If anyone has any pictures they would like to submit to the newsletter, please contact Linda Gregory.

Stay warm and see you at The Pines!

HIGHLIGHTS

Audit Report: Harold Nelson reported that Patricia Delano, Valerie Taylor and he had conducted an audit of the RCSC finances and found all to be in order, with no significant errors. The audit report was filed.

The $1000 collected for the Belks Charity Day will be used for Classic event expenses.  The Pines will hold 144 people; 200 tickets will be ordered for the Classic on April 10. The theme will be April Showers. It was decided a meal will be served. Patti Delano suggested getting flowers/plants from the high school as part of a donation ticket with a “come grow with us” theme.

2010 Budget: Harold Nelson presented the proposed budget prepared by the Ways and Means Committee. The budget with a small annual balance is based primarily on membership dues (90 member minimum) and on attendance and funds raised at monthly socials and Wednesday dances. Members were asked to review the budget prior to voting on it at the January 20 meeting.
